President’s Note – September 18th

Another great week in Alberta’s Innovation ecosystem!

– Beginning with the launch of Life Sciences Week across Alberta: Technology Alberta is excited to join API and provincial champions collaborating to host events during Life Sciences Week on September 25-29.

– Then the opening of the Open Learning Lab in Calgary. Technology Alberta is honoured to be a member of the newly launched Opening Learning Lab in Downtown Calgary! Thanks to Dr. David Finch for your collaborative leadership and grand tour of this amazing new facility, which will benefit so many future innovators.

– And then on to see the new Cohort 4 Launched – CSW (Community Safety Wellness) Accelerator; Cohort 5 Open for Intake. It was a pleasure to be at the amii offices, enjoying the opening comments by Alberta Innovates (Lan Tan) and Innovation Leader Ashif Mawji. Cohort 4 looks very strong – and so exciting to see that experienced entrepreneurs are seeing value in Alberta accelerators! Both John Murphy (Biostream) and Sam Jenkins (of Punchcard – with Standard Field Systems) hit it out of the park (Edmonton Research Park, that is).

So congratulations to all – especially Alberta’s Innovation System. Clearly the launch of the launches, and more to come!

TechAB-C’s – Technology Alberta’s Tech Companies Directory has 25 companies under “B”:

  • Edmonton – Beamdog is a Canadian video game studio founded by experienced game developers (including veterans from Bioware)
  • Calgary –  Borealis Geothermal helps industries switch from fossil fuels to clean, renewable geothermal energy.
