ABTEC4000 Initiative

The mission of the ABTEC4000 is to retain top-caliber talent in Alberta in order to strengthen and grow strong local technology companies – by increasing the visibility of these exciting high-tech employers.

The Need We Satisfy

  • We have a track record of educating outstanding tech talent in Alberta, but are at risk that this high demand talent may move elsewhere due to their low level of awareness of  local employers (Note: Long-term this is not sustainable – as provincial investment in tech education spending would not benefit the provincial economy).
  • Technology companies are recognizing the fact that they need good talent (and in some instances, having difficulty finding top talent).
  • Multi-national companies (like Google and Facebook) are easy to identify, and thus graduates may move internationally for these jobs – even though when polled, they say that they would rather stay in Alberta.
  • High-tech employment opportunities are prevalent in Alberta but not perceived as such. The companies are often small-to-medium size (SME), growing and plentiful – but may not have products that are marketed to the general public; thus, overall awareness is low.
